Shine Awards
The Awards for Women in Travel, Tourism & Hospitality
In collaboration with People 1st, the hospitality travel and tourism sector skills council
2010 winners announced!
Shine Awards winners were announced on 21st January at the Jumeirah Carlton Hotel in Central London. The event was attended by some of the most senior representatives of the British Travel, Tourism and Hospitality industry. The key note address was given by the past Shine Awards' Winner Sandie Dawe, now CEO of VisitBritain, and the audience was warmly welcomed by the Rt Hon Margaret Hodge MBE MP, Minister for Culture and Tourism.
Pat Wood, Director Corporate and Community Synergy of the London Metropolitan University Business School, drew the conclusions by praising the founders and organizers of the Shine Awards A. Alonso and G. Marcon of Shine People&Places and by thanking all the sponsors (People 1st, Barclays Bank, Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority, ILM, LMU), prize donors, the industry partners and the judges for their help and support.

The achievements of eleven outstanding women, who demonstrated extraordinary commitment to the industry, to their businesses and to their members of staff were celebrated.
'Their successes are nothing short of exceptional' commented Gaby Marcon, the awards co-founder. 'These women have often triumphed against the odds, working tirelessly to achieve their goals and all along acted as great role models and mentors both within the organisations they work for and the communities in which they operate. We are all truly inspired!'
'These women provide a wonderful role model for professionals in the sector, added Brian Wisdom compere for the evening and CEO of People 1st, the Awards' headline sponsor.' As our research shows, few women reach the top of the industry. These awards prove that talented women can and will come up through the ranks, particularly when benefiting from the mentoring and guidance of established and successful colleagues.’
